Passenger Guide - Travel with Children

Are you going on a trip with your child? Read practical tips to help minimize the inconvenience during air travel.

Documents & Tickets

When you decide to travel by plane with a child, you should in advance arrange a document confirming the identity of your child. Currently, the best solution when travelling abroad, is an individual passport.

While purchasing a ticket, you should report that you are going to travel with a child - some airlines have special places for parents traveling with children. Children up to two years (so-called infants) must be notified when booking the ticket. The fee that you pay is about 20% less of the normal fare, provided that the child is traveling on your knees and does not occupy a separate seat. For safety reasons, one adult can travel with only one infant. If you are going on a trip with two children up to 2 years of age, it must be two adults. Older children (up to 10 or 12 years, depending on the airline) also have a discount, but smaller. Remember to book a separate ticket for them.

Before the start

In order to minimize the discomfort associated with the change of pressure in the cabin of the aircraft during takeoff and landing remember to keep in mind to give a child a bottle of water. Sucking and swallowing will reduce the discomfort and alleviate the uncomfortable tension in the ears.

Food for babies and children

If your trip will last longer than 2.5 hours, you should be prepared for feeding the baby (milk, or favorite snack in the case of some older children). Baby food is exempt from the restrictions on the carriage of liquids. Therefore, when flying with a baby you can bring to the restricted area, as well as bring on board baby food in a container with a capacity of 100 ml and in greater quantities than fits in one-liter bag.
The child, because it is more likely than adults to dehydration, should drink a lot during the flight. Dry air in the cabin increases the thirst. It is recommended to give your baby drinks as often as he likes.

Baggage

In addition to the hand baggage it is worth taking onboard a daily children's toolbox containing everything that can come in handy during the long flight (spare nappies, wet wipes, clothes). Beware of creams and lotions - due to safety standards it may not exceed 100ml and during the journey must be placed in transparent plastic bags.

Traveling with a pram is allowed and commonly practiced. However, due to its size, the stroller can not usually be carried in the cabin, and it is transported in the cargo compartment. Check-in of the stroller usually looks like in the case of checked baggage. It shall be provided with tag at the point of check-in and is placed in the cargo compartment just before the passenger board in. Of course the stroller can be given as a registered baggage. In this case, it is recommended to secure it properly.

Blankets provided in the traditional airlines are not suitable for small children. Better take their own, with proven material, used only by your child, warm and familiar. This will reduce the discomfort of traveling and being in a strange place.

Mother and child room. In the area of most airports parents travelling with a child can find rooms for families, in which you can scroll baby, or feed them in peace and quiet. Information of the location of these rooms are on the websites of airports, they can also be obtained from the service directly at the airport.

Have a nice flight!
